Pileated Woodpecker

The pileated woodpecker is found throughout all of Florida, except the Keys. It typically lives in mature forests that have large dead trees for its nesting and feeding habits.

This usually shy bird is becoming used to people, and can occasionally be found in cities. This elegant bird is one of the largest woodpeckers in North America, and feeds mostly on insects such as ants and bark beetles.
