The red-bellied woodpecker is a common bird found throughout mainland Florida, in open and swampy woods and towns. These birds require dead trees or trees with big, dead branches in which to nest and feed. The red-bellied woodpecker eats mostly fruits, nuts, and seeds, but also feeds on insects.
