The armadillo is found in the uplands throughout all of Florida, except the Keys. It easily adapts to a wide range of habitats, including urban areas.
The armadillo's body is covered by a shell of horny plates that are held together by leathery skin. It is often seen rooting and digging as it looks for insects and worms to eat. Female armadillos give birth to quadruplets that are all the same sex.
