The raccoon is a common mammal found throughout all of Florida. It is an adaptable animal that can live in all kinds of habitat - from hardwood forests to urban areas.

The raccoon lives in cavities in trees or - in areas where trees are not available - in other spaces such as attics, crawl spaces, and trash piles. The raccoon is most active at night, and is easily recognized by its black mask and ringed tail.
