I began my career as a park ranger with the Florida Park Service twenty years ago. I’ve also worked as a Park Services Specialist and Manager within the Florida Park Service. I am currently an Environmental Specialist with Sarasota County Parks and Recreation, in the Natural Areas division where I manage properties in south Sarasota County. Many of these natural area parks are heavily surrounded by urban interface, including residential homes, airports, beaches and hospitals. Each NATA class along the way has helped me gain new insights for problem-solving, communicating with stakeholders, process evaluations, habitat management skills and collaborating effectively with others. I’ve enjoyed learning from the highly qualified instructors and professionals from different agencies. I thought the pre coursework was very useful and the hands-on field trips were amazing! I’ve been able to implement gained knowledge through all that I’ve gleaned as I continue to manage my parks. The need is great to continue educating ourselves as Florida’s population increases, as climate changes and as we learn to adjust management practices for the future. The NATA courses provide in-depth, social and academic education for all land managers to take with them through their careers.
Teresa earned her Certificate in Natural Areas Management in November 2025.
