Amanda Lindsay
Amanda Lindsay is a Senior Biologist for the Landscape and Natural Resources Department at the University of Central Florida in Orlando. Her duties include managing the NPDES stormwater compliance program and assisting with the urban tree canopy on the urban parts of campus, as well as land management activities in the 800 acres of natural lands that also belong to the university. These duties consist of conducting ecological tours and gopher tortoise surveys, vegetation monitoring, a prescribed burn program, invasive species and trail management, GIS work, and student and public outreach programs, to name a few. She is dedicated to conservation and protection of our natural lands through effective management practices and is passionate about Florida's ecological health and functionality.
Amanda earned her B.S. in 2011 from the University of Central Florida where she studied Environmental Science. She is an ISA certified Arborist and a Qualified Stormwater Inspector through FDEP. Prior to graduating, she worked for NextEra Energy Resources in Maine conducting fish passage surveys and assisting with studies on the effects of hydroelectric dams on the surrounding wildlife populations. In her spare time, she enjoys exploring nature, traveling, camping, and scuba diving with her family.
While she enjoyed all of the Natural Areas Training Academy workshops, her favorite of the required courses was the Florida Prescribed Burn Manager training. The amount of technical information provided in this workshop made the world of prescribed burning so much clearer to her.
Amanda earned her Certificate in Natural Areas Management in April of 2018.
