Meghan Meyer works for the Florida Park Service, a division of the Florida Department of Environmental Protection, as the Environmental Specialist for Talbot Islands State Parks, made up of 7 parks totaling 10,000 acres throughout northeast Florida. An integral component to Talbot since 2010, Meghan has worked on a variety of land management projects, including uplands restoration at Pumpkin Hill Creek Preserve and Big Talbot Island, reintroduction of fire to areas previously excluded for decades, removal of invasive exotic species, and interpretation of the parks' natural resources to park visitors. Before her time at Talbot, Meghan worked at Camp Blanding Joint Training Center and for the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission working with gopher tortoises, Southeast American kestrels, and red-cockaded woodpeckers. In addition, Meghan was involved in military land rehabilitation/restoration.
Meghan earned her Bachelors of Science degree in Wildlife Ecology and Conservation from the University of Florida in 2008. She earned her Masters of Science degree in Forest Resources and Conservation with a specialization in Restoration Ecology from the University of Florida in 2014. In her time off, she enjoys outdoor recreation including camping, fishing, hiking, and gardening. She visits as many county, state, and national parks as she can, and her love for the outdoors has only increased as she continues to work hard to restore the natural habitats of Florida.
Meghan earned her Certificate in Natural Areas Management in September of 2019.
