
Shelly Johnson
Dr. Shelly Johnson is the Director of the Natural Areas Training Academy (NATA). She is the State Specialized Agent in natural resources with IFAS Extension and affiliate faculty in the Department of Wildlife Ecology and Conservation at the University of Florida.
In addition to her work with NATA, she is developing the new Bat Friendly Florida program, is the state leader for the Florida Youth Naturalist Program, and coordinates EmpowerU Florida, Nature Knowledge, Firescaping and other natural resources extension programming and applied wildlife research related to bats.
Her education and professional background is in wildlife ecology, forest habitat, and conservation biology; field experience with wildlife includes the western US, Florida, and tropical ecosystems abroad. She received a PhD from the University of Florida in Forestry and Wildlife, Certificate in Tropical Conservation and Development, MS from Northern Arizona University in Forest Wildlife Ecology, and BS in Wildlife Resources from the University of Idaho.
