When Youth Prosper, Everyone Does
This program is aimed at creating a hub in Florida to strengthen youth and families. PROSPER stands for PROmoting School-Community-University Partnerships to Enhance Resilience.
How We Ensure Florida PROSPERs
We have adapted the PROSPER model to ensure Florida PROSPERs. Our goal is strengthening youth and families through intentional community partnerships and scientific evidence-based programs intended to build up youth and support families.
Our Main Focus: Strengthening Communities
- Building networks. We aim to build mutual trust, accountability, and sustainability in your community through partnerships that matter.
- Strong families. We aim to give families the tools they need to succeed in our changing world through programs that focus on healthy communication and emotion management.
- Positive youth development. We aim to build up youth through positive youth development programs that focus on strengths, wellbeing, and skills that will support them for a lifetime.
- Community partnership. We partner with you, for you. You are the experts on your local communities. We partner with Extension agents and local leaders working with youth in your community to strengthen youth and families.
About Florida PROSPERs
Florida PROSPERs is a new initiative in Florida Cooperative Extension and Florida 4-H that focuses on strengthening youth and their families. The purpose of the initiative is to promote positive youth development while reducing risk factors for youth problems such as substance misuse. The initiative uses the PROSPER model, an effective way to bring community efforts together for healthy youth development. The approach engages community leaders, educators, qualified professionals, and community residents in the delivery of school and community-based programs and activities that address specific community needs. Currently, the initiative is focused on the reduction of risk factors for substance misuse among middle-school aged youth.
