Strengthening Families Program
The Strengthening Families Program: for Parents and Youth 10-14 (SFP 10-14) is an evidence-based, skill-building curriculum that has been recognized by numerous federal agencies as an exemplary or model program.This evidence-based program is designed for parents/caregivers and their youth aged 10 to 14. Using highly-interactive sessions, families learn and grow together through role-playing, meaningful discussion, games, fun projects, and more.
The Strengthening Families Program aims to help all families learn skills and concepts that reduce risks, strengthen parenting approach, and build/promote positive family member interaction. Other goals of this program include:
- preventing adolescent substance abuse
- reducing youth aggression
- helping youth navigate peer pressure and stressful situations
- setting realistic and appropriate parental limits
- showing affection/love and youth support
Studies have shown that embracing these skills can help reduce aggressive behavior, avoid depression, and increase academic achievement.

What are the benefits of SFP 10-14?
SFP 10-14 has been proven effective in the following areas:
- delaying the onset of adolescent substance use
- teaching youth skills for dealing with stress and peer pressure
- increasing the ability of parents/caregivers to set appropriate limits and show affection to and support of their children
