About Us
The UF/IFAS Urban Forestry Extension Council (UFEC) includes scientific and professional experts and educators from the University of Florida and its educational partners.
The UF/IFAS Urban Forestry Extension Council (UFEC) Tree steward programs promote public awareness of the benefits community trees provide, including cleaner air and water, cooler summer temperatures, and greenspace wellness benefits. With the launch of its Florida Tree Steward Program, the UF/IFAS Urban Forestry Extension Council (UFEC) plans to add Florida to the list of States nationwide, offering tree steward programs which will help to bolster local canopy conservation and expansion efforts.
Our Mission: The UF/IFAS Urban Forestry Extension Council (UFEC) facilitates the exchange of knowledge and best practices on urban and community forest management through science-based extension programming. By fostering partnerships and engaging communities, we enhance awareness of urban forestry’s benefits, support the expansion of urban canopies, and help maintain sustainable urban ecosystems in Florida.
Vision: To foster a healthy and sustainable urban forest across Florida that enhances the quality of life in communities by promoting education, advocacy, and best management practices. We envision a well-informed and engaged population—including tree care professionals, municipal departments, and residents—actively supporting the expansion of urban tree canopies and maximizing the ecosystem services that urban forests provide in Florida.
