To promote environmentally responsible design, construction, and management of developed landscapes via research and extension.

Background & Vision Statement  

As population's expand in Florida and elsewhere, so too does the demand for resources such as food, housing, energy, and water. This demand drives land use change and subsequent degradation of natural ecosystems and life supporting services that these ecosystems provide (e.g., water, climate regulation, soil quality, etc). Given these impacts and the increasing populations, there is an urgent need to balance human resource demands with environmental stewardship. Achieving this balance within the context of residential and urban landscapes is the vision of the UF|IFAS SHED Group. Our work contributes to a new paradigm for the development and management of urban landscapes that achieves this balance.
