Florida PLT School Program

Why Become a PLT School?

PLT offers educators a way to connect students with their natural world, sparking interest and curiosity through cross-curricular activities. Research tells us that children do best when they are engaged in their learning through hands-on experiences. When children experience PLT activities that are incorporated regularly into classwork, they become actively engaged. PLT and environmental education in general encourages students to research, investigate how and why things happen, and encourages students to make their own decisions about complex environmental issues.

The Florida PLT School Program offers professional development training, strategies, and resources to ensure that these opportunities are provided to students at your school each year.

Florida PLT Schools

K-8 PLT School

The goal of the Florida PLT School K-8 Program is to increase student environmental literacy and provide consistent outdoor learning opportunities.

Early Childhood PLT School

The goal of the Florida PLT School Early Childhood Program is to support opportunities for young children (ages 3-6) to explore and engage with nature at their early childhood school, and to begin to understand actions they can do to help our world.

PLT School Requirements

Although not required, it is highly recommended that FL PLT provides a whole school PLT professional development training experience for your school, so all teachers understand the value of infusing environmental education into their curriculum or program.

Additionally, PLT Schools should provide a summary of PLT activity highlights and/or a PLT day or week. Include the number of students reached. Include photos we have permission to use, student quotes and/or actions as a result of a PLT activity or outdoor experience. Summaries are due each year on May 26.

Consider becoming recognized as a Tree Campus K-12 school through the Arbor Day Foundation
