    Nutrient Cycling within Urban Streams

Urban development has a range of hydrological, physical, and biological effects on stream ecosystems, collectively known as the urban stream syndrome. We are developing a long-term monitoring program to regularly monitor water chemistry and stream metabolism within urban streams in Gainesville, FL. For this project we will regularly sample five streams on a weekly basis for dissolved inorganic nutrients, and we will couple this regular sampling with continuous metabolism estimates. We will further identify spatial variation in water quality throughout Gainesville streams by performing seasonal synoptic sampling campaigns, sampling ~100 stream sites throughout multiple urban watersheds in Gainesville.
